Eg; I’m taking pictures of people and telling them they’re doing a good job. Pictured above is our captain looking at a piece of paper.

Are they doing anything special this year? When I was on a team we always found a way to do something that threw the judges off a little often resulting in a rule addition or two the next year. Last year was them trying to figure out hybrid chassis with carbon fiber and steel tube frame. 4 years was way too short.

Were they doing full-on carbon moldings, or a stressed-skin like Akron did in 2013?

This was something that ended up with us working hand in hand with judges to establish a form of equivalency. Basically the rear half of the car was the traditional steel tube and the front half was a carbon fiber weave that was REALLY thick I am talking in excess of 40 layers it was overkill based on our calculations and simulations but it needed to be done since without their approval this thing wasn’t going on the track. In order to take a brunt of a hit on the side as well as functioning as a torsion tube we had two carbon fiber and foam pods which required a ludicrous amount of force to bend. Oh yeah and we have been doing carbon fiber A-arms for over a decade which is just now really starting to take off in FSAE.

Holy crap, you guys did the infamous Carbon arms with no pivot points!
That car is amazing, maybe not from a “go-fast” standpoint like a Monash or GFR car is, but from a pure “let’s do something crazy that works” standpoint that is awesome.

Yeah, considering the budget we have compared to most teams I think we are fairly effective in punching above our weight. A few years ago we got I think 32nd place with a little over $5000 to build the car.
